Educational assessment at Laugalækjarskóli

Teachers enter test and assignment results on Mentor.is when students complete them. Students receive detailed feedback based on Laugó competency criteria instead of final grades for individual assignments or tests. Laugó competency is tailored to students' age and subject matter. It aligns with the competency and assessment criteria in chapters 19 to 26 of the National Curriculum for Primary Schools.

Markings for Laugó competency

Laugó competency standards can be found in the school's lesson plans online, on Mentor.is, and in individual assignments and tests. Students and parents should regularly check the Assessment section on Mentor.is to monitor academic progress. The assessment symbols are explained below.

Outstanding competence

  • The student demonstrates skills beyond expectations, with performance exceeding required standards. Outstanding achievement is possible in some Laugó competency areas but not all - open-ended, creative, and challenging assignments best showcase exceptional ability.

Competency achieved

  • Good achievement - student can independently meet all Laugó competency requirements. The student is prepared to take on more challenging work. For some assignments, this represents the highest possible score as there is no opportunity to demonstrate exceptional ability. )

On the right track

  • Student shows some mastery of required skills but has not reached satisfactory levels. Additional practice needed. Student is beginning to understand the material but needs substantial work to achieve the described competency.

Competency not achieved

  • Student requires considerable improvement to reach the required competency level. Students often receive multiple opportunities to demonstrate their competency to encourage improvement. Click the most recent marking to view progress. The most recent marking provides the most accurate assessment of student performance.

February progress assessment – spring final grades

As the school year progresses, more assessments are added, providing a clearer picture of student performance. Progress assessments are conducted in February around parent-teacher conferences. At this time, all student work and test performance is consolidated into one indicative grade for each subject. Grades follow the national curriculum's ABCD scale. Letter grades are determined by combining all assessment marks earned through assignments and tests.
